How to Double Skincare Results

After my recent discussion on the FDA warning surrounding aesthetic devices, I was flooded with comments — far more than I expected. Some were thoughtful. Some were confused. And many were deeply concerning.

What stood out most wasn’t disagreement.
It was how many people felt harmed, unsure, or misled after undergoing RF microneedling, Thermage, Ultherapy, or using at-home RF devices.

So let’s slow this conversation down and talk about what actually matters — because when it comes to energy-based treatments, details determine outcomes.

RF Microneedling vs. Thermage vs. Ultherapy — They Are Not the Same

Not all radiofrequency or energy-based treatments behave the same way in the skin.

  • RF microneedling is typically bipolar: energy travels between needles at a controlled depth.
  • Thermage and Ultherapy are monopolar: energy travels deeper, increasing the risk of unintended fat loss.
  • Ultrasound (HIFU) is specifically designed to target deeper structures, including fat and fascia.

These differences matter — especially in delicate areas like the face, under-eyes, and jawline.Depth, temperature, duration, and energy delivery are everything.

The Real Problem With At-Home RF Devices

At-home RF devices are often marketed as “gentler” or “safer” because they’re cheaper. That’s not how physics works.Professional RF microneedling devices cost six figures because they deliver stable, consistent energy. At-home devices frequently deliver erratic heat, fluctuating temperatures that can’t be precisely controlled. That inconsistency is what leads to:

  • Early jowling
  • Facial fat loss
  • Asymmetry
  • Long-term volume changes

I’ve read stories from people who unknowingly held heat on their face for seconds at a time, day after day — until they became unrecognizable. That’s devastating.
And it’s preventable. If a treatment is aggressive enough to remodel tissue, it’s aggressive enough to cause harm when misused.

Provider Skill Is the Biggest Variable — And It’s Often Overlooked

In many countries, only physicians are allowed to perform energy-based aesthetic procedures. In the U.S., someone can take a short course and be handed a powerful device. That’s not an insult — it’s a structural problem.Skill doesn’t come from certification alone. It comes from:

  • Thousands of treatments
  • Understanding facial anatomy
  • Knowing when not to treat
  • Being willing to say “no”

If someone is charging very little for an aggressive procedure, ask yourself why. You’re not paying for the machine.
You’re paying for judgment.

When Aging Gets Blamed on the Wrong Thing

Another difficult truth:
Not all facial changes are caused by procedures. In the late 50s and early 60s:

  • Estrogen drops sharply
  • Bone density changes
  • Facial fat pads naturally atrophy

If a treatment happens during this window, it often gets blamed — even when biological aging was already underway. This doesn’t mean treatments are harmless.
It means context matters. And that’s why experience matters.

So What Actually Helps Restore the Face?

When volume loss occurs — whether from age, hormones, or prior treatments — restoration must be thoughtful and conservative. Some of the most reliable approaches include:

  • PRF (platelet-rich fibrin)
  • Biostimulators like Sculptra
  • Plasma-based therapies
  • Superficial thread techniques in select patients

And sometimes, the most powerful intervention is time, proper nutrition, hormonal balance, and controlled inflammation.

The Bottom Line

Aesthetic treatments can be transformative — or devastating — depending on how they’re chosen and who performs them. This isn’t about fear.

It’s about informed decision-making.You only get one face.Ask questions.
Be cautious with heat-based devices.

Avoid emotional or rushed decisions.

And choose providers who are more concerned about your safety than your credit card.I’ll continue sharing what I see in real practice — not what’s trending — so you can make decisions rooted in science, experience, and long-term skin health.
